Description

The INA3221 Tripple Channel Voltage and Current Sensor is a precision triple-channel voltage and current sensor from Texas Instruments, designed for monitoring multiple power rails or loads simultaneously. It provides accurate measurements of voltage and current through each channel’s shunt resistor, making it ideal for multi-load power management and monitoring applications.

The INA3221 features three independent sensing channels, allowing it to monitor up to three different shunt resistors. Like the INA226, it incorporates a precision voltage reference and a high-resolution 12-bit ADC for accurate measurements. The INA3221 communicates with a host microcontroller via the I2C interface, making it easy to integrate into a wide range of projects. Its low-drift sensing capability ensures accuracy over a wide temperature range, providing stable, reliable measurements over time.

Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: 3.3V (logic level)
  • Maximum Measuring Voltage: 26VDC per channel
  • Maximum Measuring Current: Depends on the shunt resistor value
  • Number of Channels: 3 (independent)
  • Connectivity: I2C Protocol
  • Shunt Resistor: Configurable per channel

Features:

  • Triple-channel voltage and current monitoring
  • Built-in precision voltage reference
  • Low-drift voltage and current sensing
  • High-resolution 12-bit ADC
  • Supports I2C communication
  • Compatible with 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers such as ESP32, Teensy, or Arduino (no level shifter needed)

Connectivity:

The INA3221 communicates via the I2C protocol and is compatible with 3.3V or 5V microcontrollers. Multiple INA3221 modules can be connected to the same I2C bus by configuring the address pins.

Uses:

The INA3221 is ideal for:

  • Power management systems monitoring multiple loads
  • Optimizing power usage in complex systems
  • Overload or fault detection
  • Providing real-time feedback for control systems
  • Robotics and multi-channel power monitoring

Notes:

  • The maximum current measurement capability depends on the value of the shunt resistor used for each channel. Adjusting the shunt resistor allows customization for specific load requirements.
  • Use a 3.3V power supply for logic and I2C compatibility.

Documentation:

  • Libraries and examples are available for the Arduino IDE, making integration straightforward for developers.
