The HC-SR501 is a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor module used for detecting motion within a given area. PIR sensors are commonly used in security systems, automatic lighting systems, and other applications that require motion detection.
The HC-SR501 sensor consists of a pyroelectric sensor and a circuit board that amplifies and filters the signal generated by the sensor. It has a detection range of up to 7 meters and a detection angle of 120 degrees. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted using the potentiometer located on the board. This sensor features a fresnel lens to further boost the optical input of the sensor.
The HC-SR501 module is easy to use and can be powered with 5V DC. It has two output modes: digital and analog. In digital mode, the output signal is either high or low, indicating the presence or absence of motion. In analog mode, the output signal varies according to the intensity of the detected motion. The sensor interfaces with both 3.3V and 5V compatible controllers and no extra logic level circuitry is required.
